UPDATE: So How Did I Do on Storycartel.com With Downloads and Reviews?
Hi everyone,
In a past post I told you about a cool service where writers can offer up their books for free downloads and readers agree to review. The website is called StoryCartel.
It’s a very well put-together site and offers great possibilities for writers to find a new audience and readers to download free books and discover new writers.
I shared my short story, The Unfinished.
My final download tally after 4 weeks was 53 downloads. See screenshot below.
So how did that translate into actual reviews? I received 1 review outside Amazon and 6 Amazon reviews. So the ratio is close to 9-1. For every nine downloads, I got a review. Frankly, I was hoping for 50%. More people decided to skip the review (on the honor system) than those who kept their word.
Will I use again? Probably. I received 6 reviews! 6 more than I had prior. What type of reviews did I get? Most were 4-5 stars. About one 3 star and one 1 star … the first one star I ever got (from a person who didn’t get the story apparently). But I can live with that (do I have a choice?) I also received a .cvs file of all 53 downloaders, which I added to my newsletter list. Pretty cool.
Also, the site is still fairly new so I expect more people will find it which means more downloads and more reviews.
GOOD NEWS: My manager is receiving interests from Producers on making The Unfinished into a TV series. Finger’s crossed this will happens!

Here’s one of the reviews posted: http://booksbysteph.com/Williams-Marks__Patrice.html
I like the numbers I got from Story Cartel as well. I can’t recall the exact percentage, but I think it was around 10%, which is much higher than any other promotion I’ve tried (my Goodreads giveaway didn’t yield a single review).
