Question From a Reader: Is It Ethically Wrong to Post Your Crowd Funding Campaign to Two Sites At Once?
Hi Patrice,How lucky was I to have found you?I am planning my first crowd funding campaign and, for some reason, browsed the Kindle section at amazon.co.uk to see if there was anything that might help me on my way.Thank heavens I did………Your publication has bundles of information and loads of links and redirects – taking me to places I have never heard of! Such resource is invaluable to me and, rather than launch my campaign this week, I will now be busy following your detailed instruction and getting my “Tribe” together before launching in, probably, three months time.Patrice, if I were able to ask you one question, I would ask if it is legal/moral/practical/ethical to run the same campaign on different Crowd Funding platforms? What would the position be if I were to campaign on both kick Starter AND Indiegogo for the same project? Perhaps the answer might appear in a future upgrade………Thanks again for this mine of information. It is invaluable, you are invaluable – please feel to use part or all of this mail, by way of a testimonial, whenever you feel the need.Thank you.

Hi Steve,
I am so glad you’ve found the book so helpful. You made my day!
Excellent question. Now this is just my opinion. I don’t find it ethically wrong, but perhaps not a good idea. Your “tribe” won’t want to be bombarded with requests from both campaigns. Your marketing efforts/posts would have 2 links; splitting your support and perhaps raising some eyebrows while diluting your capacity to rally around one project.
I have, however, seen projects not fund on Kickstarter, then find an audience on Indiegogo, and vice versa. There is nothing wrong with switching sites in this scenario. However, there should be some time in-between, and tweaking of your projects as well, before re-listing.
Good luck on your project! Once posted, let me know and I’ll share the link on twitter and facebook.
